Water service to be restored soon to barrier islands following water main break

UPDATE:  9:15 p.m. - Water service is fully restored.  Coon Key water customers are under a boil water notice.  See map of impacted area below.

Sarasota, FL:  A contractor damaged a 16-inch water main along John Ringling Causeway this afternoon disrupting water service to customers in the area. Impacted areas include:  Bird Key, Coon Key, and portions of St. Armands Key and City Island. 

Customers in these areas may experience low or no water pressure until repairs are made and water service is restored.  Service is expected to be restored by 5:30 p.m. 

Crews with the City of Sarasota Utilities Department currently are on the scene isolating the damaged main and making repairs. A boil water advisory will be in effect for the impacted areas for 48 hours.
