Solid Waste Department offers additional red tide trash collection

Post Date:08/23/2018 2:10 PM

City of Sarasota residents who live along beaches and waterways that have been impacted by the red tide bloom can place any additional plastic bags from cleanup activities at the curb and have them collected by the Solid Waste Department on their regularly scheduled collection day. The plastic bags must be tied and weigh no more than 50 pounds. Fish remains that are not bagged will not be collected.

In addition to pickup on regularly scheduled days, the City is offering special pickups at no cost on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8-11 a.m. for those impacted residents. Call 941-955-2325 to schedule a special pickup.

Condos and multi-family properties impacted by red tide may place fish remains contained in plastic bags in their City-provided dumpsters for collection.  If an additional container is needed for cleanup activities, call 941-365-7651 to schedule the delivery and collection of the container.

The City will continue to offer these services until the current red tide local State of Emergency is no longer in effect.
